Body Mass Index (BMI) is a mathematical formula based on the
relationship between a person's height and weight.
Knowing your BMI will help you get a
rough idea of what your body fat measurements might be. Keep in mind
that calculating BMI can be an imprecise tool for determining amount of body
fat. For example, people who are very lean and muscular may have a similar
BMI to those with little muscle mass and too much body fat.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), an adult with a BMI
between 18 and 24 is considered to be at a normal weight.
A BMI between
25 to 29 is associated with being overweight, and a BMI of 30 or more is
identified as obese.
